Tires for your Mercedes

Tires for your Mercedes

You have three choices when it comes to tires for your Mercedes. The easiest and quickest thing is to pop down to the local tires store, buy what your car came with (usually Michelen or Continental, plonk down a credit card and be done with it. This will set you back somewhere in the neighborhood of a grand but this is the quickest way to deal with it.

The next way to get tires is to purchase them mail order. Tire Rack is the grandaddy of all mail order tire places and I've only heard good things about them, no complaints although I've never used them myself. There probably are others that do this too, just not as well known. Drop me a line if you have a good story to tell about this.

Used tires can be the best bargin you ever found if you're careful and patient. For us poor working stiffs with more cars than brains they can be a life saver.

However you get tires you really really should get an on car balance. This may not be easy to find but makes a huge difference. Around here this is done sans machine - there's an older fella that jacks up the car, spins the wheel up to 60 then puts his hand on the car. If he feels ANY vibration he adjusts the weight on the car. This is the secret to getting a glass-smooth ride than you simply cannot get with tires balanced off the car.

USED tires

Used tires not good enough for you? Nonsense. It's a $6B a year industry. Go buy some new tires for a thousand bucks, put them on your car. Drive around the block. Now you have used tires. Are THEY good enough for you? Read on for more information and sources.
